Standby switches not working

Hi, I am creating a bound for a company event. I would like the participants to find and scan a QR code, and then to answer a quiz question based on where that QR code is. So I need the quiz to only be played once the QR code is scanned.

I have set a switch for the Quiz-element and added a condition that it should be played once the QR code is found.

I have 4 of these QR-code+Quiz combinations in the bound (one stage - randomized). I have tried placing all elements with switches on top, but it does not work - or only works sometimes.

What can I do to fix this?

Hello Line_Hansen,

Firstly, I would like to briefly explain how the standby switch works. An element with a standby switch is placed at the beginning of the bound / stage (you have done everything right).
BUT: the switch condition of a standby switch is only ever checked when the bound changes from one element to the next. If the switch condition then applies, the element with the stand-by switch „pushes“ itself in between.

I have understood the following: You want the player to search for a QR code, scan the code found and then a matching puzzle appears. The question is, who specifies which QR code should be found?

Variant 1:
The player has to find all the QR codes, he decides itself the order (indirectly); he searches for any QR code and scans the first one he finds. Then follows the corresponding challenge.

In this case, I would select in the Bound settings:
„Sequence of stages: selectable“ and „Selection of stage: scan QR code“
The names of the stages appears as a list (green), but you can only select the stage using the QR code (red).

The stage contains the corresponding challenge.

Variant 2:
The player has to find all the QR codes. Which one is on now is random (the game decides). The player has to find the right one.

In this case, I would select this in the Bound settings:
„Sequence of stages: random“ (you need a corresponding licence for this)
In the stage you will place the element „Scan QR Code“ and then the corresponding challenge.

There are certainly other solutions. That depends on which game mechanics you prefer. At the end of the day, a standby switch is not necessary in most cases.

I hope I was able to help a little.
Best regards
Sven G
